gin and gold is an exploration in materiality, simple composition, and the process of crafting art. this project reached an unexpected, but much-preferred completion roughly midway through its original design. with the proper mindset, the process of creating art can redefine the works intended outcome.

dan j. murphy is an artist based in los angeles whose creative vision seeks to illuminate the accidental as well as the calculated correlations between the natural world and the man-made. using a diverse assortment of materials such as plaster, resin, rope and acrylics, his body of work exists in the connective space between the abstract and recognizable, the known and the unknown, the mind and the heart. as a senior project manager at kaa design, with nearly 20 years of professional experience within southern california’s high-end custom residential market, dan brings a unique perspective on managing a high-level architectural design process in coordination with the city of malibu, city of los angeles, and los angeles county.
